2005 Cinco Tierras Malbec - Mendoza Argentina

An easy to drink, enjoyable bottle of Malbec from Argentina. Just wish we could mix this one with a little merlot and stick it in some oak a bit longer. May just give it a bit more body and depth. Overall was good though. We’d drink another!

Prodigo 2004 Malbec Argentina

The lighter side of the Malbec varietals… This wine from Alessandro Speri’s Prodigo was probably our least favorite Malbec. Nose and color fine, initial taste was ok but far from wow. Probably would pass next time on this one.

Taymente Malbec 2003

Taymente Malbec 2003Another bold and beautiful Malbec from Argentina! Filled with cherry and blackberries, this wine from Argentina was really enjoyable and a must have again soon.

Winemaker notes:
Although totally drinkable now, this wine will also be great after 2-3 years of aging. Berries explode on your palate…from Argentine Winemaker of the Year, Jose Hernandez Toso.

Tasting notes from The Vines of Mendoza:
Traditional Malbec through and through! This wine personifies the unique characteristics of this singular varietal: intense violet color, aromas of ripe plums with hints of chocolate and vanilla, and cherry, violet and mocha flavors.. Enjoy its full body and long finish, rounded out by the balanced use of new oak.

Food pairing ideas:
Excellent with roasted meats, steaks, game, and medium to sharp hard cheeses.

Sottano Malbec 2005 Mendoza Argentina

Sottano Malbec 2005 At first we were intrigued by the beautiful label. (which doesn’t or shouldn’t be the best way to pick out a bottle of wine…but has worked for us from time to time) The black face you see is actually a die cut. Very unusual and elegant. Anyway, after letting it decant for 30 mins we gave it a good swirl and then a sniff. Wonderful nose on it! “Hmmmm, nice” Laura said. After the first sip we both agreed this was a tasty 100% Malbec with a nice hint of oak and full of great flavor. (need another bottle before we can tell you everything we tasted in this wine)

Taste is at least double the cost of the wine. (around $15) Great flavors and wonderful smell. Give it a try!
