Sebeka South Africa 2006 Cabernet Pinotage

We were in the grocery store the other day and they had a big display announcing this new wine from Africa so we decided to grab a bottle and give it a try. The nose on this wine was very interesting. Almost smelled like cheese! Not expected nor have we ever smelled anything like that before. Wouldn’t say we loved it but the taste was good. Berry and even some wood flavor. Unique! May need to keep a few for a year or so to let develop more. Overall, a nice tasting wine from Western Cape, South Africa!

From the label: “Our Cabernet Pinotage with the dark fresh blackberries of smoth and creamy Cabernet are intensified by Pinotage’s intense red berry notes and complex structure.”

Look for the yellow and black Cheetah label.

Sebeka South Africa 2006 Cabernet Pinotage, We found this wine in our local grocery store as well - at $6.99 a bottle. I think this is an exceptional wine. It has a very nice nose, but the complex flavors are what has made me a fan of this little known wine

You can task the berries. However, it is the hint of chocolate and coffee along with a bit of earthiness that lingers on the tongue that sold me. I select this wine every chance I get.

Ditto to Gregory previous… This wine does not compare with a Shafer Cabernet at less than $75 a bottle (;). BUT the flavor is captivating and joyful to the nose and palate. Smooth with tones of mellow blackberries, it follows in a buttery soft hint of spice? NOT a sophisticated complex wine, but we enjoy it routinely. A joy for us.
